Diagnosis

Diagnosis: snout shorter than half the head length (Guinea to Liberia); body depth 4.8-6.3x and head length 3.3-4x SL; head 2.6-3.2x longer than wide; snout pointed, 1.3-1.9x longer than eye diameter; eye 3.6-4.6x head length; scale formula 11-13/100-112/7-9; 14-17 anal-fin branched rays; 15-17 dorsal fin branched rays (Ref. 1936, 86396).

Description: apart from the bicuspid teeth, there are 2 strong anterior canines in upper and 3 smaller ones in lower jaw; 24-28 scales between lateral line and pelvic-fin bases (Ref. 2936, 86396).

Coloration: upper part of body light yellow; sides usually with 4 black longitudinal bands; caudal fin bright yellow with oblique black stripes on both lobes (Ref. 2936, 86396).
