This species is distinguished among southeastern Hypseleotris except H. galii, H. acropinna by the following set of characters: elongated rays in posterior portions of second dorsal, anal fins with fin tips extending along length of caudal peduncle in adult males; median fins having distal bands of pale orange in mature males. It is distinguished from H. galii by absence of dark pigment around genital papillae in females (vs. prominent dark spot ventrally surrounding genital papilla) and from H. acropinna by generally having 33-34 lateral scales (vs. 31-33) (Ref. 128732). |
