Diagnosis

Light organ small, not externally visible. Anterolateral snout margin not entirely supported by bone. Snout pointed with underside covered with tiny scales. Nasal fossa almost entirely naked. Space between two dorsal small usually less than the base of the first dorsal. Overall coloration dark brown in large adults, lighter brown in smaller individuals. Fins all blackish.
