This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: one row of cheek scales; predorsal scales 6; dorsal-fin spines are taller than segmented rays; no filament on middle of dorsal fin; pelvic fins long and reaching past anal-fin origin; in life males with broad blue area covering isthmus, lower part of head and breast to at least pelvic origin, and soft dorsal fin with narrow black, medial stripe (Ref. 118207). |
