Description: Characterized by having variable coloration; frquently reddish to mottled greyish brown; unbranched pelvic rays; illicium about as long as second dorsal spine; few slender filaments and clusters of pigmented swellings at base of esca; second dorsal spine not connected to head by membrane; opening of gill about midway between base of pectoral fin and anal fin origin; absence of caudal peduncle (Ref. 90102). |
