Definition of Term

shelf break
(English) Region where the continental shelf and continental slope meet, i.e., where the more gently-shelving region of the sea bed adjacent to a land-mass rather abruptly slopes more steeply down towards the ocean depths: commonly around 200 m. (See also: continental shelf, continental slope)
