Definition of Term

raceway

(English) concrete, elongate and rectangular fish-rearing unit generally associated with a hatchery which has a large volume of flowing water, able to sustain greater fish densities than ponds, and able to maintain a cleaner environment. Used particularly for trouts, and less often catfishes. May be 100 m long, 1-10 m wide and 0.5-1.5 m deep and made of concrete (usually), brick, tile, earth or lined with plastic.
