Definition of Term

monotypy
(English) According to the Code, the situation arising when an author establishes a nominal genus or subgenus for what he or she considers to be a single taxonomic species or when an author bases a nominal species-group taxon on a single specimen. (See also: Code, taxon, nominal taxon)
monotypie
(French) D’après le Code, la situation survenant lorsqu’un genre ou sous-genre nominal pour ce qu’il considère comme étant une seule espèce taxinomique qu’il dénote par un nom disponible (qui est alors l’espèce-type par monotypie) ; ou lorsqu’un auteur fonde un taxon nominal du groupe-espèce sur un spécimen unique. monotipia
(Portuguese) Do Código, situação criada quando um autor estabelece um género ou subgénero nominal que considera ser uma espécie taxonómica única. (See also: Code, taxon, nominal taxon)
