Definition of Term

longitude
(English) Eastern and western distance from the null meridian which passes through the poles and through Greenwich in England, measured in angular degrees from the center of the earth. Note that a difference of 15° latitude equals a time difference of one hour. Also, one minute of longitude equals one nautical mile at the equator, but less with increasing latitude. Notez qu'une différence de 15° de latitude est égale à une différence de temps d'une heure. Une minute de longitude est égale à un mille nautique à l'équateur, mais moins avec de latitude croissante.
