Definition of Term

function
(English) A biodiversity criterion that emphasizes the role that certain species, communities or ecosystems have in determining the ability of other species, communities, or ecosystems to persist. For example, a "keystone species" makes a disproportionally large contribution to community structure, composition, or processes. (See also: biodiversity, threat, keystone species)

(French) Critère de biodiversité qui souligne le rôle que jouent certaines espèces, communautés ou écosystèmes qui permettent la persistance d'autres espèces, communautés ou écosystèmes.
