Definition of Term

fringing reef area
(English) Portion of coast consisting of reef structure attached to shore, sometimes with narrow, shallow lagoon features; extends from lower limit of the shore area (i.e., low tide line) to the bottom of the outer reef slope. (See also: reef, lagoon area)
récif frangeant
(French) Portion de côte qui consiste en structure du récif attachée à la littoral, quelquefois avec des caractérs d’une lagune étroite, peu profond; étend de la limite inférieure de la région du rivage (c.-à-d., la ligne de la marée basse) au fond de la pente récifale externe. área limite do recife
(Portuguese) Porção de costa formada por uma estrutura recifal unida a terra, ás vezes com lagoas estreitas e pouco profundas. (See also: reef, lagoon area)
