Definition of Term

binominal nomenclature
(English) The system of nomenclature whereby a species, but no other taxon, is denoted by a binomen or a combination of two names, the first being the generic name and the second the specific name. Interpolated names, if present, are not counted as words of a binomen. (See also: nomenclature, Code, binomen)
nomenclature binominale
(French) D’après le Code, système de nomenclature selon lequel une espèce, mais aucun autre taxon, est dénotée par un binôme, une combinaison de deux noms, le premier étant le nom générique et le second le nom spécifique.
