Types: 750 species are represented by types; a type catalogue has been published in 1982 (see Nijssen, van Tujil & Isbrücker 1982); a new edition is being prepared. Special features: Indonesia, New Guinea, E. Atlantic, South America (Guianas), Caribbean Sea (Neth. Antilles); Siboga material (all species described by Weber and de Beaufort), South America (species described by Nijssen and Isbrücker), especially siluroids. (See also: fish collection)
