Definition of Term

Danish seine
(English) A method of boat seining with a large net, but landing the catch on the vessel; a single or pair boat operation where an area of seafloor of approximately 2 square kilometers is swept as two encircling ropes leading to a trawl-like net are retrieved by the operating vessel(s). Fish within the area of the ropes are herded back into the net during hauling, also: a seine which is hauled over an area of about 2 square kilometres to a stationary vessel, the very long towing ropes disturbing clouds of mud which help herd the fish into the net. (French) Une méthode de sennage de mer avec un grand filet, mais ou la prise est débarquée sur le vaisseau; un seul ou une opération bateau paire où une région du fond de la mer d'approximativement 2 kilomètres carré est balayée comme deux cordes encerclant conduit à un filet en forme d'un chalut est rapporté par les vaisseaux d'opération).
