Max. size:  20.5 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 178.0 g
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish; marine; depth range 1 - 16 m, diadromous
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Suriname to Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 55-60; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 40-44. Pectorals either vestigial or reduced to 1-2 rudimentary rays (Ref. 36453).
Biology:  Adults are found more abundantly on shallow soft bottoms of brackish estuaries or hypersaline lagoons. They enter freshwaters at least to an elevation of 10 m. They inhabit rivers and creeks and probably feeds on aquatic insects and crustaceans (Ref. 36880).
