Dorsal spines (total): 8-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-13; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 11-11; Vertebrae: 25-25. Principal caudal rays 14 (middle 12 branched); upper and lower procurrent caudal rays 4; terminal phase adults mainly pinkish red with broad yellow bar immediately behind head; initial phase white on lower half with broad dark stripe on upper half, forming rectangular blotches posteriorly in preservative (Ref. 31087). |
Found on the outer reef slope, frequently in areas where surge is strong (Ref. 31087). |
