Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Corinae
Max. size:  14 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 2 - 15 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea to Natal, South Africa and east to Maldives and Chagos Islands.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 9-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 11-11. Males lack the red axil spot and females usually feature two white lines (Ref. 48636).
Biology:  Inhabits reef flats and clear lagoon and seaward reefs (Ref. 9710). Found singly or in small groups consisting of one male and a few females (Ref. 9710). Feeds on small invertebrates, especially crustaceans and mollusks.
