Indo-Pacific: East Africa, including Somalia (Ref. 4343). Also reported from the Andaman Islands, India and Indonesia (Ref. 7050). There are a few records from brackish and fresh waters. Recorded from the Mekong delta (Ref. 12693). |

Cheek naked; opercle naked; central pectoral base sometimes scaled; breast and belly anteriorly naked; predorsal region naked or with few scales anterior to first dorsal fin; first dorsal fin with blackish mark on posterior half of fin near base, marking darkest posterior to fifth spine appearing slightly crescentic (Ref. 34009). |
Occur in coastal waters, estuaries and tidal zone of rivers. Feed on small fishes, crustaceans and insects (Ref. 12693). |
