Family:  Sillaginidae (Smelt-whitings)
Max. size:  15 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 5 - 30 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean: East coast of India. Although regarded as a distinct species, its close similarity to Sillago asiatica indicates that the latter species is a junior synonym of Sillago soringa. Both species are being retained pending a full study of the Indian material (Ref. 6335).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21-21; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 22-22; Vertebrae: 34-34
Biology:  An inshore species associated with sandy bottoms (Ref. 6205). Oviparous (Ref. 205)
