Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Cyprininae
Max. size:  15 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Mekong basin in Laos and Yunnan, China.
Diagnosis:  Anal fin with 5 1/2 branched rays; absence of black spot on anterior base of dorsal fin, but tip of fin blackish (Ref. 43281).
Biology:  Occurs in large rivers, usually over sandy or muddy bottom, frequent in backwaters.
