Family:  Scorpaenidae (Scorpionfishes or rockfishes), subfamily: Scorpaeninae
Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 223 - 500 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Japan and South Korea. Reported from Taiwan (Ref. 12711). Also reported from New Caledonia (Ref. 86942).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 5-5. Body reddish; scattered with irregular pale blotches and some black dots; a large black patch at the posterior part of dorsal fin from 7th to 10th spines. Mouth oblique; upper jaw reaching below posterior margin of eye (Ref. 43569).
Biology:  Found on the continental shelf. Benthic (Ref. 75154).
