Family:  Melamphaidae (Bigscale fishes or ridgeheads)
Max. size:  3.7 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 500 - 3000 m
Distribution:  Atlantic, Indian and Pacific: in tropical waters. South China Sea (Ref.74511).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 7-8. Body slender blunted anteriorly, eye small. Gas bladder longer than stomach (Ref. 37108).
Biology:  Trawled below 500 m.
