Family:  Scombrolabracidae (Longfin escolars)
Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 100 - 900 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Atlantic, Indian and Pacific: widespread in tropical and subtropical areas. Not occurring in the eastern Pacific and southeast Atlantic.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-16; Anal spines: 2-3; Anal soft rays: 16-18; Vertebrae: 30-30. Body dark brown in color (Ref. 6655).
Biology:  Oceanic and mesopelagic. Found on the continental shelf and underwater sea rises (Ref. 10817). Rather rare.
