Distinguished from its congeners in Europe by the combination of the following characters: 37-40 scales along lateral line; anal fin with 9½ branched rays; 11-14 gill rakers; dorsal head profile straight, snout pointing forward, tip above level of middle eye; back not humped behind nape; eye not close to dorsal head profile when viewed laterally; head length 29-31% SL; articulation of lower jaw below or in front of anterior margin of eye; ventral head profile with a conspicuous angle at articulation of lower jaw; and all fins dark grey in adults (Ref. 59043). |
Inhabits well vegetated rivers, backwaters, oxbows, ponds, and lakes. Attains a maximum size of about 20 cm SL (Ref. 59043). |
