Family:  Gigantactinidae (Whipnose anglers)
Max. size:  14.1 cm TL (female)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 300 - 600 m
Distribution:  Tropical and subtropical parts of all oceans (only records of males and larvae are known in the Indian and Pacific Ocean).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 3-4; Anal soft rays: 4-4. Length of illicium 143-158% SL; secondary illicial filaments absent (Ref. 86949).
Biology:  Also mesopelagic (Ref. 10761).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 11 October 2018 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
