Differs from all other Indian Puntius in having 7 branched dorsal rays (vs. 8), a round dorsal spot at the base of dorsal rays 3-7 (vs. larger and oblong, and on base of rays 4-8 in Puntius dorsalis), and a spot at base of caudal (vs. on the caudal peduncle in Puntius dorsalis) (Ref. 26698). |
Inhabits hill streams, lowland swamps and dry zone rivers and tanks. Feeds mainly on green algae and detritus (Ref. 4832). Popular for aquarium purposes (Ref. 44325). |
