Family:  Gasterosteidae (Sticklebacks and tubesnouts)
Max. size:  6.5 cm SL (male/unsexed); 9 cm SL (female)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish; marine
Distribution:  Asia: Korean Peninsula, Japan, Kuril islands, Amur basin and Kamchatka Peninsula.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-13; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 7-11
Biology:  Length in freshwater is recorded at 6.5 cm TL; in the sea, it is recorded at 8.5-9.0 cm TL (Ref. 2058). Males build, guard and aerate the nest where the eggs are deposited (Ref. 205).
