Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to central Madagascar.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-15; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-13; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 9-11; Vertebrae: 28-30. This species has a prominent adipose occipital hump (Ref. 39915).
