Dorsal spines (total): 7-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-12; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 11-12; Vertebrae: 27-27. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: opercular spine long and cleithral spine very short; lateral-line scales 56-62; gill rakers 2 (+2 rudimentary) on upper limb and 12-13 (+5-6 rudimentary) on lower limb of first gill arch; bucklers 8-10 (1st and last are united) at the base of first dorsal fin; vertebrae 27. Colouration: a large black blotch between the 4th and 6th spines of the 1st dorsal fin; second dorsal fin with one longitudinal row of small dark pigmentations; inner surface of pectoral-fin with black membranes, white posterior margin and three small white
spots basally in fin, each ray creamy white (Ref. 131445). |
