Distribution:  Africa: Lake Malawi, Malawi.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 16-17; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-10; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 8-8. No acutely sloped ethmo-vomerine block. Lower jaw parallel to a line from the tip of the snout to the hypural plate. Compared to P. williamsi, head depth is smaller (88.7-99.4% SL vs. 102%); eyes larger, vertical eye diameter 27.3-32.2% HL vs. 25.5%; lesser body depth (Ref. 41512).
