Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Mexico.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-13; Anal soft rays: 9-11. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: characteristic pigmentation pattern similar to that of P. punctatus and P. oaxacae; number of lateral scales to that of dorsal-anal scales 0.32-0.38; ratio between anal rays and the number of lateral scales 0.23-0.35 (Ref. 137751).
