Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal soft rays: 25-32; Vertebrae: 30-31. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: scale rows around the caudal peduncle 15-18; branched dorsal-fin rays 9; comparatively robust, thick, broad, and downward curved predorsal spine; scale rows between the lateral line and dorsal-fin origin 8-10; and comparatively elongated predorsal spine 4.3-5.5 (Ref. 137756).
