Family:  Pomacentridae (Damselfishes), subfamily: Pomacentrinae
Max. size:  8.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 2 - 8 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Andaman Sea to Vanuatu, north to the Philippines, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia (Ref. 37816). Recently recorded from Tonga (Ref. 53797).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-15; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 14-15. Description: Overall cinnamon to dark brown with dark ear spot (Ref. 90102) or ocellus usually only edged with blue on front half when adult and the eye has a distinct white iris (Ref. 48636). Body depth 1.8-2.0 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Adults inhabit lagoon, coastal and seaward reefs (Ref. 9710), usually on open rubble patches (Ref. 48636). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
