Western Pacific: Indo-Australian Archipelago. Closely related to Plesiops cephalotaenia from the Philippines and the Ryukyu Islands to the Solomon Islands (Ref. 37816). |

Dorsal spines (total): 11-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-8; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Has nine pale stripes on the body (Ref. 37816).
Description: Characterized by brownish grey color; cheek and operculum with large orange patch; caudal fin mostly covered with orange color; orange tips of dorsal fin and blue submarginal stripe; juvenile similar but lacks orange color on head; tubed lateral line scales 19-20+8-13; midlateral scale series 23-25; predorsal scales 9-11; cheek scales rows 4-5 (Ref. 90102). |
Biology: |
Found usually on reefs in less than 8 m (Ref. 27772). Eggs are guarded by the male parent (Ref. 205). |
