Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  18.7 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; pH range: 8 - 8.5; dH range: 10 - 20; depth range 4 - 35 m
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to Lake Malawi. Occurs on Malawi shores: at Nkhata Bay and in the south along the Nankumba Peninsula from Thumbi Island west to Zambo in the south east arm.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Confined to rocky areas where the rocks are covered with a thin layer of sediment. Usually solitary. Feeds on insect larvae and crustaceans (Ref. 267).
