Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  46 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 50 m
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean: southern Australia, from southern Western Australia to New South Wales and Tasmania (Ref. 9563).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Recorded from the intertidal zone to a depth of 50 m (Ref. 9563). Frequently among seaweeds and coral reefs (Ref. 9137). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205).
