Peppered goby

Family:  Gobiidae (Gobies), subfamily: Gobiinae
Max. size:  2.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 12 - 28 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Southern Bahamas.
Diagnosis:  Dark overall with large melanophores; fins paler (Ref. 026938); small; lacking head pores; possess ctenoid scales only along ventral edge and sides of the caudal peduncle; has two modified basicaudal scales at base of caudal fin; first dorsal with VIII spines; pelvic fins united forming a disc; possesses dark internal bars (Ref. 92840).
Biology:  Sponge-dwelling goby which inhabits loggerhead sponges, 1-2 ft in diameter, at depths of 12-28 m. Generally co-occurs with Evermannichthys metzelaari (Ref. 92840).
