Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Smiliogastrinae
Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults occur in rivers, lakes, ponds and ditches (Ref. 41236). Possibly useful as larvicide (Ref. 4832).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 09 October 2009 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
