Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 5-6; Anal soft rays: 4-4. Characterized by having escal morphology: anterior escal appendage without internal pigment; terminal escal papilla with two distal spots of pigment; compressed posterior escal appendages; absence of lateral appendages; single pair of bifurcated anterolateral appendages; long and narrow subopercle, dorsal end tapering to a point, without indentation on posterodorsal margin; length of ventral fork of opercle 25.9-26.6% SL; ratio of lengths of the dorsal and ventral forks of opercle 0.44-0.50; absence of epibranchial teeth; presence of teeth on pharyngobranchial II; upper jaw teeth 40-55, lower jaw teeth 44-58; teeth on vomer 5-7; dorsal fin rays 5-6; anal fin rays 4; pectoral fin rays 15-16; head length 39.6-40.6% SL; head depth 38.8-40.6% SL; premaxilla length 29.5-35.9% SL; length of lower jaw 43.7-48.4% SL; length of illicium 48.3-57.8% SL (Ref. 86949).
Biology:  Also mesopelagic (Ref. 10524).
