Diagnosis: |
Dorsal soft rays (total): 5-6; Anal soft rays: 4-4. Distinguishing characteristics: esca with stout anterior appendage, slightly swollen distal tip and pigmented in larger specimens; truncate terminal escal papilla, flanked on each side by a medial appendage consisting of 2-3 short, unpigmented filaments; unpigmented, tapering, posterior escal appendage less than length of escal bulb; lacks teeth on pharyngobranchial II; relatively short illicium 13.0-20.4% SL; well developed teeth on anterior margin of epibranchial of first gill arch; total number of upper jaw teeth 57-134, lower jaw with 51-93 teeth; vomer with 6-10 teeth (Ref. 86949). |
