Diagnosis: body depth 4-4.4x and head length 3.2-3.5x SL; 32-36 ctenoid scales in longitudinal series; 9-10 anal fin branched rays; 11-12 dorsal fin branched rays; 1 to 4 iridescent green (in live fish) or black (in preserved material) spots on sides (Ref. 2936, 86396).
Description: short snout; maxilla not reaching to below anterior eye margin; each jaw with 2 rows of teeth, those in outer row bicuspid, those in inner row conical; 14-18 outer and 10-15 inner teeth on mandible; 14-16 outer and 12-16 inner teeth in upper jaw; adipose fin absent; lateral line when present cover 4-5 anterior scales; caudal peduncle 1.5-1.7x long than high; 16 scales around caudal peduncle (Ref. 2936, 86396).
Coloration: both, live and preserved specimen are recognised by presence of 1 to 4 (generally 3) spots on sides which are emerald- to turquoise-green (live specimens) or black (preserved specimens) (Ref. 2936, 86396). |
