Family:  Galaxiidae (Galaxiids), subfamily: Galaxiinae
Max. size:  15 cm (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater, non-migratory
Distribution:  Oceania: endemic to New Zealand.
Diagnosis:  Pelvic fins reduced.
Biology:  Inhabit ephemeral areas that dry out over summer and autumn months, where they aestivate in damp areas or under tree roots and logs (Ref. 43717). Spawning period extends from July to October (Ref. 33843).
