Two opercular spines and several vertical bars on body ending as ocelli or dark blotches on dorsal and anal fin. Different from N. fasciatus by having 11-13 long rakers against 8-10, and anterior ocellus in front of line versus posterior to line in N. fasciatus. |
| Rare species (Ref. 34024). Reproductive strategy possibly similar to other members of this family featuring oviparity, with oval pelagic eggs floating in a gelatinous mass (Ref. 205). |
