Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia and Oceania: Widely distributed north of the central dividing range in the Markham, Gogol, Ramu, Sepik, and Mamberamo river systems in northeastern New Guinea.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-15; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 11-15; Vertebrae: 32-34
Biology:  Generally lives in slow-flowing, shaded streams, in rocky pools or well-vegetated sections. Also found in swampy areas. Occurs at altitudinal range from near sea level to at least 1200 m.
