Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: southern Florida, USA and Gulf of Mexico to the northern coast of South America (Ref. 13628).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 17-18; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 16-17
Biology:  Found on silty or muddy bottoms of the continental shelf (Ref. 13628), in burrows (Ref. 9710). Sometimes found in colonies (Ref. 9710).

Threat to humans:  harmless
