Dorsal soft rays (total): 3-3; Anal soft rays: 3-3. Metamorphosed females distinguished by the following characteristics: distal escal appendage 16.4-39% SL; compressed distal escal appendage, with fringed edge in specimens greater than 40mm; absence of additional escal appendage; barbel divided nearly at base into 3 unpaired primary branches; subdermal pigment in two rows along side of body; parasitic males without pointed sphenotic spines (Ref. 86949). |
