Environment:  demersal; freshwater; depth range 40 - 92 m
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic and widespread in the southern part of Lake Malawi, south of Nkhota Kota.
Diagnosis:  Diagnosis: pharyngeal bone greaty enlarged; pharyngeal teeth very molariform (Ref. 54524, 55954). Anal fin base 20.2 (17.8-21.0)% SL (Ref. 54524). Description: snout short; terminal mouth set low on profile (Ref. 54524, 55954).
Biology:  Deep-water species (Ref. 55954). Inhabits sandy bottoms (Ref. 5595). Feeds mainly on gastropod mollusks (Ref. 267).
