Family:  Ophichthidae (Snake eels), subfamily: Ophichthinae
Max. size:  35 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 17 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: Mexico to Colombia.
Diagnosis:  Vertebrae: 144-151. Brown or black head with white markings; uniformly dark brown to black body and tail; white dorsal fin. No anal fin. Anterior nostril hole without raised rim. Suborbital pores 4; second pore displaced medially when viewed from above (Ref. 27478).
Biology:  Inhabits sandy bottoms, from the intertidal zone up to a depth of 17 m.
