Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  25 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range - 25 m
Distribution:  Southeast Pacific and Southwest Atlantic: Hornitos, Chile to Golfo San José, Argentina.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in algal beds in coastal or estuarine areas. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205).

Threat to humans:  harmless
