Lepidophanes gaussi (Brauer, 1906)

Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Lampanyctinae
Max. size:  5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 850 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: disjunct distribution between the 30°N and about 20°N, and between 13°S and 23°S. Elsewhere, in the Atlantic, in central regions of anticyclonic gyrals in both hemispheres.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  High-oceanic (Ref. 4479). Found at 425-850 m during the day and nyctoepipelagic at the surface and down to 175 m (maximum abundance at 51-100 m) (Ref. 4479).
